The glam rock slacker king Noah Wallace, lead singer in LA:s hottest glam band S´cool Girls is coming to Europe to join Martin on the DJ tour "The Rock´n´Roll Diskotek Tour 08" Both of these rockin gents are in possession of huge vinyl collections that contains glam rock from the 70:s and forward up to the present day. Ola är inbjuden som gästartist av pianisten Per Tengstrand vid en Galakonsert för Giresta Pianofestival i Slottskyrkan i Stockholm. Salo och Tengstrand har samarbetat tidigare, bland annat vid Linnéjubiléet 2007, och skall nu alltså spela tillsammans igen. Konserten föregås av tre dagars Pianofestival i den lilla byn Giresta, som under dessa dagar invaderas av artister och publik från hela världen samt en stor mängd Steinwayflyglar. It has been close to appear on all of The Ark:s albums but never made it in the end. I have always thought of this song being arranged with a string quartet, so, when Per asked me if i could do something together with Trondheimsolisterna at his festival i thought of this little gem right away. There is a possibility that it might turn up on a future Ark album, but it will not appear in the nearest future in any form. So, you might say that for now this festival is the only chance you'll have to hear it until it might surface again in The Arks repertoaire! Since Per Tengstrand is a major fan of The Ark, the whole evening will be very Ark influenced. Jonas Nydesjö has written a symphonic piece based on The Ark songs and also a new arrangement for "Calleth you, cometh i" for violins and piano where i will participate and sing also. Apart from all of this, the audience will be treated with piano music from different eras, performed by Växjös very own world acclaimed pianist. (Press Picture Here!) March 26:th, Pugh Rogefeldts new album "Vinn hjärta vinn" will be released. This is a high ranked reunion, for the first time since Pugh's debut in 1969 with the album "Ja, dä ä dä" he has written new material with Janne "Loffe" Karlsson and Jojje Wadenius. Playing bass on the album is Ulf Jansson. Producer is none other than Martin Axén from The Ark, the fact that The Ark has taken a break after one of their most successfull years ever does not mean that the band members is just laying around relaxing, no sir... Martin says: "-This has been a dream project of mine! It felt really fantastic working with a kind of "holy" part of the swedish music history. Everything went really well and the guys were certainly open to my sometimes perhaps a bit unmodern and twisted ideas. I've really gotten the taste for producing after this. Pugh: "-I was really nervous that Martin would have a problem finding the time or the guts for this, but he was really enthusiatic and everything clicked. You change over time, but Martin has helped us to find some playful qualities in our work that i couldnt see myself, or perhaps forgotten them." Den 26 mars släpper Metronome Pugh Rogefeldts nya album ”Vinn hjärta vinn”. Skivan är en återförening av rang – för första gången sedan 1970 gör Pugh nytt material med Janne Karlsson och Jojje Wadenius. Producent är Martin Axén från The Ark. Med hyllade plattan ”Prayer for the weekend” fick The Ark ett hektiskt 2007. Förutom att bli årets artist alla kategorier på P3:s Trackslista gjorde de runt 100 konserter hemma och ute i Europa, vann Aftonbladets Rockbjörnen som årets liveartist, fick P3 Guld-nominering och ett antal Grammis-nomineringar. Albumet har sålt platina (hittills 63 000 ex). Att The Ark nu håller paus betyder inte att medlemmarna ligger på latsidan – gitarristen Martin Axén har till exempel passat på att bli producent. Och det är inte vilken produktion som helst, snarare ett ”bära eller brista” för samtliga inblandade. Det är fyra decennier sedan Pugh Rogefeldt på debuten ”Ja, dä ä dä!” (med hjälp av Janne Karlsson och Jojje Wadenius) i en enda urladdning definierade det då okända begreppet ”pop på svenska”. Pugh gick sedan från att vara firad tonårsstjärna till att bli ett svenskt hushållsbegrepp, till att under en period nästan bli bortglömd. Men med fans som DJ Shadow, Thåström, Per Gessle, Bob Hund och The Ark, samt ett antal fina återutgivningar, har hans egensinniga låtmakeri fått sin rättmätiga återupprättelse. Hur många artister är egentligen relevanta efter 40 år? Från den positionen har Pugh nyligen återförenats live ett antal gånger med Wadenius och Karlsson, men ”Vinn hjärta vinn” är det första de har spelat in tillsammans sedan 1970. Jojje spelar elgitarr, Janne trummor och med på plattan är även basisten Ulf Jansson. Pugh: - Jag stötte först på The Ark när de skulle uttala sig i samband med att min box kom ut 2002. Sedan har Martin och jag träffats många gånger. Han har kommit på flera av våra spelningar, och med sitt sätt att prata om min musik visat att han är kunnig och verkligen fattar vad jag håller på med. Jojje och jag var överens om att vi inte skulle producera själva, så jag fick uppdraget att ringa Martin. Jag var jättenervös för att han inte skulle ha tid eller inte våga, men han var entusiastisk och allt stämde. Man förändras med tiden, men Martin har plockat fram lekfulla kvaliteter i det vi gör som jag själv inte har förstått, eller hade glömt. Han har lagt ner ett jättejobb i detta, mycket mer än vad jag hade begärt. Martin: - Det här har ju varit mitt drömprojekt! Det kändes svindlande att få jobba med det allra heligaste i svensk musikhistoria. Istället för att utgå från Pughs demoinspelningar bad jag bandet att angripa låtarna mer fritt, och hitta in i hur de svänger naturligt. Jag har också jobbat efter principen att hellre ta bort än att lägga till. Allt flöt på otroligt bra och grabbarna var väldigt öppna för mina kanske ibland omoderna och sjuka idéer. Resultatet blev fantastiskt, och jag har verkligen fått mersmak på produktion. Martin Axén är 34 år och gitarrist i The Ark sedan 1997. Förutom att vara musiker är han ekologiskt sinnad kock och starkt musikaliskt präglad av barndomsår i Kenya. Kuriosa är att The Arks trumslagare Sylvester Schlegel har spelat med Pugh. The Ark kommer att göra två exklusiva konserter i sommar, en på Gatufesten i Sundsvall och en på Ruisrock i finska Åbo. Pugh Rogefeldt kommer att turnéra i Sverige under sommaren. --- February 25:th 28:th 2008 THE ARK PERFORMS 2 EXCLUSIVE GIG IN SCANDINAVIA THIS SUMMER! After a very successfull year in 2007, The Ark choose to perform only 2 concerts in 2008. One will be in sweden at Gatufesten, Sundsvall on July 4:th and the other one will be at Ruisrock in Finland. Ola salo writes a new swedish translation och plays the lead part in Jesus Christ Superstar. October 31:st, Andrew Lloyd Webbers musical will have its premiere at the Malmö Opera House. Directed by Ronny Danielsson and with Ola Salo in the part of Jesus. -Im very pleased that Ola accepted the part, says Opera chief Lars Tibell and looks forward to see Ola on their stage again. Besides playing the lead, Ola will also write a new translation of the musical in swedish. Ola has earlier performed there in Kristina från duvemåla and also in Spelman på taket (Fiddler on the roof) during 1997-1999. It´s entitled "LINNÆUS REX" and it´s a "symphonic poem written for orchestra, choir and piano soloist". This piece has been especially requested and ordered by the town of Växjö for the upcoming 300 year-celebration of the birth of Carl von Linné. (born in Råshult, not far from Växjö). The first time this piece will be performed will be during the opening of this grand celebration at Växjo Konserthus, January 28:th. On January 30:th anyone who´s interested will have the opportunity to come and listen to it, it will be performed 2 times that day. Performing solo pianist is Per Tengstrand. The mighty five are gathered in Malmö to start rehearsing for the grand tour awaiting. Two days of heavy jamming, disciplined grooving and electric riddle-solving are now at end, surprising ourselves with sonic endulgement. Tomorrow we´ll be off to our sauna-loving neighbours in the east to perform two songs at a TV-show and hopefully enjoing some Finnish urban wild-life. It is always with a special glow in our hearts we visit the land of Marimekko, not only because both Me and Ola happen to be 1/4 finnish ourselves. We heard rumours that Tavastia is already sold out (It took two hours!!!) and that is very flattering, especially since our past shows there have been such extraordinary thrills. Vi såg fram emot den här tiden som den lyckliga och festliga tid då vi skulle släppa en ny skiva och komma ut och möta alla er igen. But due to the events in south east asia, we have all been shrouded in a pitch black darkness. This disaster has affected us all in one way or another and some has been struck so much harder than others. Our thoughts goes out especially to those that has lost their loved ones or havent heard from a family member or a friend. Our thoughts are with you and we hope that our music will be able to offer you some kind of comfort. Even though the situation surrounding the record signings that we'we done this week was another than we expected, it still has felt like a good thing to do them and to meet many of you. It is in moments like this that it feels good to be around people like you and get together in a positive and hopeful atmosphere.
